On Saturday, 29 March, 2008, at the Trapani-Birgi Airport, the airport refurbishment projects were presented during a meeting on the theme “The Trapani-Birgi Airport: a challenge and an opportunity for the development of the territory”. The initiative was promoted by Enac (Ente Nazionale Aviazione Civile, Italian National Civil Aviation Authority), and by Airgest, the airport service management company, presided over by Salvatore Ombra.

A 900 million Euro investment plan has been implemented in South Italian airports. Sicily was the region to benefit more from this investment plan: 350 million Euro. In Trapani, the large refurbishment works, which have been mainly completed, concern the airport and its infrastructures, for a total investment of about 20 million Euro.
